Legislative Intern

Description: State Representative Joan Bauer's office is currently accepting applicants for internship positions in her downtown Lansing office. Interns would be expected to provide assistance to the Representative and members of her staff in areas such as answering telephones, appearing at events in the 68th District on behalf of the Representative, legislative research, constituent casework and correspondence, legislative event planning and implementation, writing (tributes, talking points, e-newsletters, press materials, etc.), database management, and general office management/organization. Students will be given an array of opportunities in an often fast-paced political environment. Hours are negotiable, and students from all disciplines are encouraged to apply.

Salary Range: This is an unpaid position, but college credit is available. See your program's internship coordinator for more information on how to obtain college credit.

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants need to have superior written and verbal communication skills, be extremely attentive to detail, and be comfortable liaising with state departments, community organizations, and constituents. Basic computer skills (Microsoft applications, internet research, etc.) are a must, as is the ability to work efficiently and multi-task. Bilingual skills (Spanish) and previous office and/or political experience are a plus, but not required.
